The mission to get food scraps out of landfill

Over the last few months, you may have seen a lot of activity at local events and in the town square to try and get the word out, and give locals ideas on how to use their food scrap bins.

It is estimated that about half of Papakura’s residents, are using the food scraps service at least once every three weeks.

Last month, MaiFM even got involved, giving out cash prizes to households who were using their food scrap bins.
Since this service began in March 2018, it is estimated that 1376 tonnes of kerbside food scraps have been diverted from landfill - which works out to be approximately 112 tonnes a month.

Check out this video series Auckland Council has produced in partnership with No Six.
