A new interactive mural in Papakura titled Insta-Active, features five different photo backdrops for Instagram users. The mural was a collaboration between Auckland Council, Manukau Beautification Charitable Trust and The Corner: Creative Space, after landowner approval was granted by the Papakura Local Board.

Lead Artist; Cypress Iles, was assisted by five supporting artists: Ken Parry, Wilz Leonard, Richie Kennedy-Walker, Nelly Parry and Nate Thompson.

“This is my first large-scale art project, and I’m really happy with the final result” said Iles, who currently works on the media team at The Corner: Creative Space, and studies at the Media Design School in Auckland City.
The site of the mural was a notorious hotspot for graffiti vandalism, resulting in ongoing costs for graffiti removal. Auckland Council’s Graffiti Vandalism Advisor; Helen Smith said, “Auckland Council are proud to support this community-led initiative, utilising the skills and insights of young, local artists”

Interactive art has become increasingly popular in recent years, specifically with users of visually driven social platforms like Instagram, TikTok and Flickr. You can find Insta-active at the Davis Car Park, behind McDonald's in Papakura.
